Dr. Neil Berinstein, an oncologist and clinician scientist at Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre. Hope for Health Foundation for Cancer Research is dedicated to supporting research into preventing and treating all types of cancer. We are proud to support Dr. Neil Berinstein's Advanced Therapeutics Program at the Toronto-Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre.

                                                              

Congratulations to Dr. Neil Berinstein a proud recipient of the 1st Annual Professional Excellence Tribute Award. This was awarded by the Advance Business Club and the He Shan Friendship Society of Ontario on Saturday, December 6, 2003.
Proceeds of the event were donated to the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation.
The aim of this award is to recognize the outstanding devotion by the professional specialists to the community and society of Ontario.

In the past year, Toronto has experiences and fought against the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and the North American Blackout of the century. During this incidence, personnel in all professions, with their knowledge and resourceful experience, demonstrated their professionalism, selfishness and dedication.

During the disastrous period of the SARS, in which many people were infected and forty-four of them passed away, we realized the importance of well-trained medical professionals.

To recognize the contribution to the community, the committee decided to award the first  "Professional Excellence Tribute Award" to these medical professionals. Other Award recipients as well as Dr. Bernstein was Dr. LAN Tallmeister of Scarborough Grace Hospital who survived a SARS attack along with his 14 year old daughter, Dr. Stanley M. Zengh, director of the Cancer Palliative Care Services of the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care.  Three other recipients who were less fortunate were Nelia Leandelar Laroza, and Tecla Lai Yin Wong, two of the nurses who died from SARS, and also Dr. Nestor Yanga, who also succumbed from this terrible disease .
