Erle is a dentist born 1947. When he was diagnosed with serious life threatening lymphoma cancer 5 years ago he refused to lie down and die. He went through chemo, bone marrow transplants and stem-cell treatment. He challenged his oncologist, Dr. Neil Berinstein, to try and kill him and he would do everything in his power to stop him. Chemotherapy is toxic; it not only kills cancer cells but also the red cells, the cells of the immune system, too. He knew that if he did not survive the chemo and its side effects, pneumonia would probably kill him. With each treatment energy was depleted. The Hope for Health Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in September 2000 by Dr. Erle Strauss and Evelyn Pancer, two individuals whose lives were dramatically affected by lymphoma cancer. Erle, a lymphoma patient, and Evelyn, who sadly lost her husband Stanley to lymphoma cancer, formed Hope for Health in an effort to "pay back" the very dedicated and caring health care professionals involved in cancer treatment and prevention.
